Looking back: the significance of flags

part 17 of memories from my
35 year teaching career:

I would have hoped that there
would not have been any need
these days to discuss people that
support the confederate flag or
the nazi swastika. We should
remember the three hundred sixty
thousand U.S. soldiers killed
while battling the confederacy,
and the four hundred thousand killed
in World War II.

I would also have hoped that despite
policy differences we
would all be willing to show our
support for the American flag, if
for no other reason than to respect
these memories. Spend some time
thinking about what would have
happened if the U.S. military had
not been victorious in the civil
war or World War II.
