We must always remember the evils of
the Nazis. Humanity narrowly escaped
what would have been an age of terror
if the Nazis had triumphed. If the
evacuation at Dunkirk had not succeeded,
or if the Enigma code had not been broken,
or if Hitler had not foolishly decided
to invade Russia …
U.S. civilians were mostly spared direct
attack during the war, but people in
many places suffered severe hardship.
One place worth visiting in London is
the Cabinet War rooms museum, which tells
the story of the bombing of Britain and
the underground command center that was
headquarters for the defense. Keeping
the secret of its location was essential
to its survival — another example of a
narrow thread on which the survival of
free society depended. See
http://www.iwm.org.uk/history/a-short-history-of-the-cabinet-war-rooms
for more information about the museum.
Those that self-identify as Nazis out of
ignorance need to be educated. Those
that really are Nazis present a serious
challenge, and it does not seem that
anyone has yet figured out the best way
to deal with them.
