Good news on extreme poverty
Here is some good economic news. The rate
of extreme poverty in the world has been
going down. See
http://myhome.spu.edu/ddowning/global/gdppie.htm
for some graphs that show per capita income
in different countries. About one-third of
the world’s population live in two countries:
China and India. As many people in these countries
have becone richer there is a significant
fall in the rate of global poverty. However,
there still are many countries suffering from
extreme poverty, so there is still work needed.
The End of Poverty by Jeffrey Sachs
is a good book that describes many countries
and the traps that keep some in poverty and
the strategies that have allowed some to
escape poverty.
